Komets Ride Two Early Goals In 3-1 Victory Against River Otters

January 21, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

The Fort Wayne Komets rode two first-period goals and defeated the Missouri River Otters 3-1 Friday night at the Allen County Coliseum.

The Komets scored the only two goals in the first period. The first came on the rebound of a Rob Guinn shot, as Tom Nelson slid the puck underneath a sprawled Kevin Reiter. Troy Neumeier picked up the second goal with a blistering slapshot from the right point that beat Reiter cleanly.

Neither team dented the twine in the second period. Justin Quenneville had a breakaway shot that appeared to enter the net, but the goal was waived off by referee Ryan Carroll.

The River Otters finally got on the board with a third-period power play goal. Riku Varjamo picked up a loose puck at the right point, skated to the top of the right face-off circle, and slipped a wrist shot between Kevin St. Pierre's pads. Fort Wayne got a goal late in the period, however, as Jonathan Goodwin beat Reiter with a good backhander.

The Otters will play the Kansas City Outlaws Saturday evening at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Webcast at www.riverotters.com.
