TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The second of six meetings and the second of two in Richmond. The clubs will also meet twice in Roanoke at the end of the season. âDogs beat the Mechanics 3-2 in the first meeting. Richmond is 4-3-1 vs. the Central Division. Motor City is 0-6 vs. the East. Richmond is third in the Eastern Division, 11 points back of Adirondack. The âDogs are four points behind Flint and Missouri who have the two wild card playoff spots. Motor City is fifth in the Central, 14 points back of Port Huron.
LAST ACTION: The âDogs beat Elmira 4-2 Wednesday. David Hymovitz had his second hat trick of the season vs. Elmira. David Brosseau also scored. Nathan Grobins earned his third win with the âDogs. Motor City lost 4-3 to Kalamazoo in a shootout on the road Saturday. The Mechanics rallied for two third period goals to force the overtime. Joe Burton scored two goals and had an assist.
'DOG BITES: The âDogs have allowed only nine goals in their last five games. The 'Dogs are 3-1-1 on a seven game homestand. Richmond is 6-0 this season when held to under 20 shots on goal. The 'Dogs are now carrying three goalies and eight veterans (one more than the UHL game night lineup limit of seven). David Hymovitz is tied for 12th in the league in scoring. He is the âDogs representative in Monday's All Star Game. Mark Turner is tied for 15th in the league in scoring. Trevor Senn is third in penalty minutes. Kyle Sheen leads UHL rookies in penalty minutes and is second among rookies in game winning goals.
MECHANICS NOTES: Motor City is unbeaten in regulation in three straight games, equaling their longest unbeaten run of the season. Kevin Hansen is the Mechanics All Star Game representative. This is the fourth of a six game road trip for Motor City and the first of three straight on the road vs. Eastern Division clubs. The Mechanics are 1-0-2 on the trip.
NEXT UP: The âDogs are home Saturday vs. Kalamazoo. NASCAR Rookie of the Year driver Kasey Kahne will be on hand for the game. The âDogs will wear motor racing themed jerseys that will be autographed by Kahne. There will also be a post-game skate with âDogs players following the game.
