Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets announced Wednesday that forward Garrett Thompson has inked an agreement to return for his second season on the Fort Wayne roster.
Thompson, 26, will be starting his third pro season after making his ECHL debut last year with Fort Wayne. The left wing skated 34 games with the Komets scoring 11 goals and 30 points before he received a call-up to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage where he amassed six goals and 13 points in 32 games. Thompson returned to Fort Wayne for the final regular season game before appearing in all 16 playoff games scoring a team high (tied with Shawn Szydlowski) 10 goals and adding two assists for 12 playoff points.
The Traverse City, Michigan native made his pro debut with Binghamton in the AHL in 2013-14 appearing in seven games after completing a four-year stint in the CCHA with Ferris State University. Thompson helped the Bulldogs win the NCAA 2011-12 Regular Season Championship. In 2013-14 the skater capped his four-year collegiate career leading Ferris State with 16 goals and 32 points in 43 games. Thompson spent the entire 2014-15 season with Binghamton scoring six goals and 14 points in 65 AHL games.
The Komet preseason roster grows to 10 players with the addition of Thompson and includes seven forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender.
Komets to skate three preseason tilts-- The Komets will skate three exhibition games, two at home and one on the road. The preseason schedule is as follows:
Friday, Oct. 7, Indy Fuel at Fort Wayne Komets, 8pm ET (Allen County War Memorial Coliseum)
Saturday, Oct. 8, Fort Wayne Komets at Indy Fuel, 6pm ET (Indiana Farmers Coliseum)
Monday, Oct. 10, Brampton Beast at Fort Wayne Komets, 7:30pm ET (Allen County War Memorial Coliseum)
Opening night for the 65th season of Komet Hockey in Fort Wayne is Saturday, Oct. 15 against the Quad City Mallards.
