TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets and AHL's Manitoba Moose announced the hiring of John Peterson as the club's new Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations on Wednesday. This year will be Peterson's second year broadcasting in the ECHL.
Peterson, a native of Minnesota, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Peterson has extensive experience working in hockey and has been around the game since the age of four.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity with the Oilers and thrilled to be continuing my professional career with such a well-respected organization." Peterson said when asked about the new position.
Peterson comes to the Oilers' organization from the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL, where he held a similar position.
"I'm looking forward to working closely with the media in Tulsa, and I can't wait to meet the fans and interact with them throughout the season." Peterson said.
Peterson is no stranger to working with fans or the media. Before his stint in Evansville, he was the Play-by-Play Broadcaster and Director of Media Relations for the Austin Bruins of the NAHL from 2013-2015. While with the Bruins, Peterson also contributed to the Minnesota Wild sales team that set a franchise record for total ticket revenue in 2014-15.
"With everything I know about the Oilers' organization and meeting the staff, I think this is going to be a tremendous year and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."
