Komets improve pace over last season

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets completed week 16 of the 2003-04 campaign with a 30-13-4 record, bettering their record by 3 wins after 47 games played last season.

The Komets started the week with a 3-2 shootout loss at Richmond for the Komet's first setback in 9 games tying the UHL season-high winning streak at 8, also set by Richmond (10/24/03-11/14/03). David-Alexandre Beauregard and Adam Lewis each scored regulation goals for the Komets while goalie Kevin St. Pierre took the "SOL" stopping 26 of 28 shots in regulation. St. Pierre's winning streak was stopped, setting a new Komet record of 10 consecutive wins by a goaltender in a UHL season. The shootout took 13 rounds to complete, also a new Fort Wayne record for number of shootout rounds in a UHL game.

Thursday the Komets posted their 30th win of the season dominating the Beacons in Port Huron 5-1 to remain unbeaten in regulation 14 straight games. St. Pierre picked up his 25th win of the season making 21 saves while Dustin Virag, Ryan Severson, Seasn Venedam, Kelly Perrault and Colin Chaulk each scored for the Komets.

Friday in Muskegon the Komets dropped a 6-4 decision to the Fury. St. Pierre started the game and allowed 4 goals on 18 shots. Kelly Shields registered the loss making 13 saves on 14 shots in 27:11 of relief. Bobby Stewart notched a pair while Venedam and Lewis each added tallies. It was the Komets first regulation loss in 15 outings.

Saturday the Komets finally returned home to face the visiting Flint Generals in front of a crowd of 10,507 for the third sell-out of the season. The Generals doubled-up the Komets 4-2 in the match as St. Pierre posted his first regulation loss in 14 appearances stopping 15 of 18 shots. Danny Stewart and Virag each scored for the Komets in the game.

This week the Komets are off until they host Kalamazoo Friday at 8pm, travel to Missouri Saturday for an 8:30pm start (Fort Wayne time) and return home for a Sunday match at 5pm against the Richmond RiverDogs.

Komet streaks: defenseman Kelly Perrault is riding a 5-game point streak (1-8=9) and 6-game road point streak (10 pts).....Sean Venedam has a 3-game point streak (2-4=6).....Dustin Virag has points in 3 straight games (2-1=3).....defenseman Kevin Schmidt has skated in 209 consecutive games (+81) and has not missed a regular season or playoff game since his first game with the Komets Oct. 12, 2001, at New Haven.

Milestones: winger David-Alexandre Beauregard has registered 199 career UHL goals going into games this week.

Marathon Night Friday.....this Friday night is Marathon Night again as the Komets host the Kalamazoo Wings.
