Port Huron Flags News Release
The Beacons started their four games in four nights at home on Thursday, February 5th with the visiting Colonial Cup Champions the Fort Wayne Komets. The Beacons have been unsuccessful this season against the Komets; coming into Thursday's night game they had a 0-2-0 record against. Thursday game the Komets out shot and out score the Beacons to take home the 5 to 1 win. Fort Wayne's Ryan Severson started the games scoring at 10:55 of the first period with this 12th goal of the season. They continued the scoring in the second period with a short handed goal by Sean Venedam, his ninth of the season at 4:31 of the second and Kelly Perrault, his 16th at 12:13 on a power play. Port Huron did denied the shut out for Kevin St. Pierre with Mike Corneau's fourth goal of the season only 0:26 seconds into the third period. However, Fort Wayne found the back of the net behind Port Huron's goaltender Stu Dunn two more times during the third period with Dustin Virag's 19th goal of the season short handed at 2:58 and Colin Chaulk's 18th goal of the season on a power play at 16:40 of the period. The Komets out shot the Beacons 42 to 22 and converted on 2/5 power play opportunities with the Beacons going 0/4 for the night. Record against moves to 0-3-0 for the season. Port Huron faces off against the Komets three more times this season.
Friday, the Beacons traveled to Glen Falls to face off against the IceHawks. Port Huron started the scoring for the night at 19:14 of the first period with Casey Harris's fourth goal of the season. Adirondack responded in the second period with a goal from Frank Littlejohn at 0:28 of the second. It scored stayed tied for the remainder of the regulation, forcing the seventh shoot out of the season. The Beacons out shot the IceHawks 26 to 20 in regulation and neither team was able to convert on their power plays. Goaltender Kory Cooper stopped all but one IceHawk shot in the shoot out earning him the 2-1 shoot out win. Ben Genesse and Jason Firth got their shoot out goals pass Adirondack's goaltender Scott Dickie. Other shooters for the Beacons were Michel Beausoleil, Josh Tataryn and Ian Jacobs. Record against moves to 5-2-1.
Saturday, the Beacons stopped in Elmira to face the Jackals. Elmira dominated the game, holding the Beacons only to one goal, which came in the third period. Trevor Segstro started the scoring for the night at 1:14 of the first period, his seventh goal of the season. Don Smith followed up with his 18th of the season at 4:42, a short-handed goal. Mike Thompson and Eddy Lowe also earned goals during the first period. Thompson's goal, his fifth of the season came at 10:14 and Lowe's, his 14th of the season was at 19:06 of the first period. Port Huron was out shot 11 to 20 in the opening period. Second period recorded no goals, but the Beacons did out shot the Jackals 14 to 11. Third period the Beacons came out hoping to change the momentum of the game. Barry McKinlay set a message only 0:58 into the third period with his fourth goal of the season, stealing the shut out from Ryan
McIntosh. Elmira responded to the goal, however not the way the Beacons were hoping for. The Jackals tallied four more goals in the third period. Mike Thompson earned his second of the night at 6:46 and his sixth of the season. Randy Murphy, JF Boutin earned the other three goals. Murphy's goal at 11:22 of the period, his 14th of the season and Boutin's goals at 13:32 and 17:58 of the third period, his fifth and sixth of the season. Stu Dunn replaced Port Huron's goaltender Kory Cooper after the opening period. Cooper stopped 16 of 20 shots while Dunn stopped 14 of 18 shots for the night. Port Huron ended up out shooting the Jackals 40 to 38 and neither team was able to convert on their one power play for the night. Record against moves to 4-3-0 for the season.
Final stop for the Beacons was on Sunday with a match up against the Richmond IceDogs. Port Huron has not been able to put one in the win column when matched up against the IceDogs. Richmond's Eric Perricone started the scoring short handed at 9:37 of the first period. He also earned his second for the night at 19:14 of the third period. Port Huron was held off with no goals in the opening period for the second straight night. Richmond's Derek Schutz Jay Murphy, Dave Dartsch and Luch Nasato earned the other goals for the IceDogs in their 6 to 3 win over the Beacons. Schutz' goal was at 15:12 of the first period, Murphy's at 0:58 of the second period, Dartsch's at 3:30 of the second period, and Nasato's at 18:28 of the second period. Barry McKinlay, Wade Winkler and Joe Sewell got on the board for the Beacons. McKinlay's fifth goal of the season came at 4:43 of the second period, Winkler's fourth goal of the season was at 17:10 of the second and Sewell's fourth of the season came at 12:10 of the third period on a power play. Port Huron out shot the IceDogs 31 to 30 for the night. Record against moves to 0-3-0.
The Beacons end the week 01-02-00, third place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 22-19-03 and 47 points.
Beacons Fast Forward - The Beacons play once this week after coming off a four and four day trip out East. The Elmira Jackals come to town on Saturday, February 14th. The Beacons faced off against the Jackals the Saturday prior and had trouble getting behind Jackals' goaltender Ryan McIntosh. The Jackals are 19-22-6 with 44 points and ranked 4th in the Eastern Conference. They have a road record of 7-14-0 and currently on a one game losing streak. The Beacons are 14-9-0 on home ice and are currently riding a two game losing streak. So far this season the Beacons are 4-3-0 when matched up against the Jackals.

Weekly Honors â The Beacons nominated Right Wing Michel Beausoleil and Goaltender Kory Cooper for the UHL's Sher Wood Player of the Week and Goaltender of the Week. Beausoleil earned 3 points (3 assists) during the four Beacons games this week. Beausoleil also earned his 100th UHL point on Saturday in the 1-8 loss to Elmira. Cooper went 1-1-0 for the week. He faced 59 shots total and completes the week with a 0.915 save percentage and 3.75 goals against average.
