Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL â The Quad City Mallards have acquired 6'4", 227-pound forward Tyler Lawson from the Richmond RiverDogs, in exchange for future considerations. He is expected to join the Mallards this week as they prepare for games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Team President/General Manager Howard Cornfield made the announcement today.
Also today, the Mallards announced that forward Bob Crummer has left the team for personal reasons.
Lawson, a 20-year-old native of Barrie, Ontario, had 88 penalty minutes, including eight major penalties, in 12 games with the RiverDogs. He signed with Richmond on Dec. 5, but has not played since being placed on 21-day injured reserve on Jan. 12. Lawson began the season with the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and accumulated 190 penalty minutes, along with a goal and four assists, in 11 games.
Lawson split last season between the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (major junior) and South Surrey of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League. He had a goal and 37 penalty minutes in 19 OHL games. In 2001-02, he played for the Parry Sound Shamrocks of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League, posting four assists and 213 penalty minutes in 34 games. He also made his pro debut that season, with the Central Hockey League's Memphis Riverkings. He earned an assist and nine penalty minutes in six games.
Crummer scored six points this season, on two goals and four assists, and accumulated 49 penalty minutes in 33 games. He was in his second full pro season and had played for the Mallards in the 1999-00 playoffs, between his major junior and college careers.
"Bobby has returned home to Ontario for personal reasons," said Cornfield. "These issues take precedence over hockey. We hope that once they are resolved that he will rejoin the team."
