Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets made their only game of the week last week count with a 4-3 shootout win at Flint Friday night. It was the first time this season the Komets needed the shootout to decide the game. Last year the Komets posted a 2-9 record in 11 shootouts. Konstantin Shafranov, Frankie DeAngelis and P.C. Drouin scored Komet goals in regulation. Shafranov also hit the net for the only goal needed in the shootout. Netminder Tim Haun made 26 saves on 29 Flint shots for his second win of the season. It was the first of six trips to Flint this year for the Komets. The Generals will make their season debut in Fort Wayne on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 26.

Komets home double-header weekend this Friday and Saturday The Quad City Mallards and the Dayton Gems are Komet foes once again and will make their first appearances of 2009-10 in Fort Wayne this weekend.

The Mallards return Friday night at 8:00 for their first encounter with Fort Wayne since they were members of the United Hockey League during 2006-07. The last time Quad City visited Fort Wayne was March 23, 2007 when they handed the Komets a 7-6 shootout loss. The Komets lead the all-time series against Quad City 36-26-7-0 including the Fort Wayne 3-1 win at Quad City Oct. 24. Friday's match will be Quad City's first of eight visits to Fort Wayne this year. The Mallards are 1-4-1-0 after six games and are winless since their season opening 3-1 victory at Flint Oct. 17. Quad City is idle this week until they skate at Fort Wayne Friday.

The Gems make their return to Fort Wayne ice Saturday at 7:30pm. It will be the first time the Dayton Gems have skated in Fort Wayne since Komets including Al Dumba, Barry Scully, Terry McDougall, Dave Norris, Doug Johnston, Bob Janecyk and Robbie Irons defeated the Gems 6-3 in Fort Wayne on March 29, 1980. The Komets opened this season with a 4-3 overtime win at Dayton Oct. 16 and are 68-81-0-12 all-time against the Gems. Saturday's appearance will be Dayton's first of six in Fort Wayne this year. The Gems won two out of three last weekend and are 4-4-2-0 in 10 games this season for 10 points and share fourth place with the Komets in the IHL after four weeks of play. Dayton visits Flint Wednesday and travels to Bloomington Friday before skating in Fort Wayne Saturday.

The Komets will finish the weekend with a 5pm faceoff Sunday at Walker Arena in Muskegon. It's the first of five trips this season to Muskegon. The Komets upended the Lumberjacks 3-1 in the last meeting Halloween night in Fort Wayne in a game highlighted with 115 penalty minutes between the Komets and Jacks. Muskegon visits Port Huron Wednesday and plays host to Flint Friday before welcoming the Komets Sunday.

Saidachev waived.....the Komets announced Tuesday that Evgeny Saidachev (RW) has been placed on waivers. Saidachev had appeared in all seven Fort Wayne games to date registering one assist.

Syro-ing in.....Matt Syroczynski (LW) is entering his third week of call-up at the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. In four games Syroczynski has a goal and an assist. The left winger scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 win at Wilkes Barre-Scranton Friday night and was a starter and dished an assist in Saturday's 6-1 win at Syracuse.

Marathon Fridays.....Friday night's are Marathon Night's at Komet home games. Two fill-ups get fans a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for Komet Friday night games. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.

Share The Warmth Coat Drive starts Saturday.....the Komets, in conjunction with Kroger and Scott's, are asking fans to bring gently used or new kid's coats, sizes six through 14 please, new mittens, hats and scarves to the Komet home games this Saturday or Friday, Nov. 20. All items will be distributed to children in need in the local area. Komet fans making a donation will get 10 free chuck-a-pucks, compliments of Kroger and Scott's.
