KALAMAZOO - Jumping out to an early lead, the Fort Wayne Komets never trailed in game five and went on to defeat the Kalamazoo Wings 6-4 Saturday night at the Wings Event Center to clinch the Divisional Semifinal series four games to one.

After winning the opening faceoff, the Komets took the early lead just 15-seconds into the contest. After a scramble in front of the K-Wings net, Matt Lowry pushed the puck in for his first of the postseason.

Answering back just 3:35 later, Gergo Nagy (2nd) evened the game up at one. Taking advantage of a 2-on-1 break, Sam Ftorek found the tape of Nagy, who slid the puck through the legs of Komets' goaltender Roman Will.

Continuing the back-and-forth action, C.J Severyn (2nd) gave the Komets the lead once again with a power-play tally. Forcing a cross-rink pass, Shawn Szydolowski hit the end of Severyn's stick and deflected the puck past Joel Martin.

Not staying down for long, the K-Wings struck back with a goal of their own while on the man-advantage. Utilizing a Michael Neal screen, Jake Chelios (1st) ripped a slap shot from the blue line for his first professional playoff goal.

Capping the scoring in the opening stanza, Matthew Pistilli (4th) would give the Komets the lead once again, with a wrist shot from between the circles.

Racing up the right wing, Drew Daniels snuck past the defense and beat Martin on a backhander 10:26 into the second period to give the Komets their largest lead of the night.

Kalamazoo responded four minutes later in an unusual manner. While killing off a penalty, Ben Wilson found Jean Bourbeau in front of the net for the team captain's first of the playoffs.

Pushing their lead back to two goals, Mitchell Heard used a deke to freeze the K-Wings and skated in to score his second tally of the playoffs with just 34 seconds remaining in the stanza.

Giving the K-Wings life in the final period, Michael Neal redirected a Matt Caria power play slap shot to cut deficit to one with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Clinching the game and the series for Fort Wayne, Eric Faille (1st) tacked on an empty netter marker with 13 seconds left.
