Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets upended the Wings at Kalamazoo Saturday night in game five of the best-of-seven first-round series 6-4 to take the series four games to one and advance to the ECHL North Division Finals against the winner of the Toledo-Wheeling series. Toledo defeated Wheeling Saturday night to lead their first round best-of-seven series 3-2 with game six Tuesday, April 28 at Toledo.
Six different players scored for Fort Wayne Saturday. Matt Lowry, C.J. Severyn, Matthew Pistilli, Drew Daniels and Mitchell Heard each solved Wings netminder Joel Martin while Eric Faille sealed the win with an empty net tally. Severyn, Faille and Heard each added an assist for two-point nights while Shawn Szydlowski also dished two assists for a pair of points in the game. Gergo Nagy, Jake Chelios and Michael Neal scored for the Wings. Goaltender Roman Will snagged his fourth win of the playoffs stopping 26 of 30 shots. Martin suffered the loss for Kalamazoo allowing 5 goals on 26 shots.
The Komets were 1/4 on the power play while Kalamazoo deposited two power play goals on five chances.
