Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamzoo, MI- Don't tell the Kalamazoo Wings and Fort Wayne Komets it was preseason hockey, as teams continued their heated rivalry with a wild 6-5 Fort Wayne victory Friday Night at Wings Stadium.

Fort Wayne jumped ahead to an early 1-0 lead with a breakaway goal from J.P. Roy (1st) eight minutes into the contest.

Kalamazoo answered back six minutes later at the 14:05 mark with a wrap around lamp lighter from Jayson Zilkie (1st).

A Lane Moodie (1st) slap shot from the left circle earned the K-Wings a 2-1 advantage early in the second period, but it would be short lived as the Komets rallied for two unanswered goals midway through the period from Dominic Osman (1st) and Maxime Gravelle (1st) to regain a 3-2 lead for Fort Wayne.

The Komets continued to blaze, scoring twice 35 seconds apart in the first two minutes of the third period to extend their lead 5-3.

Jeremy Stevenson (1st) made his presence felt in his first K-Wings contest, striking on a backhander 2:49 into the period. The goal was part of a two-point night for the former NHL-er and K-Wings' Player Assistant Coach.

Konstantin Shafranov (2nd) put the game out of reach with his second of the night with a man-advantage goal midway in the final stanza.

Kalamazoo battled back with a pair of power-play goals of their own from Moodie (2nd) and Peter Masterton (1st), but it wouldn't be enough, as Fort Wayne hung on to defeat the K-Wings 6-5.
