
Komets Cool IceMen, Shutout Mallards to Gain Four-Point Week

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets began week five of 2011-12 by handing the Evansville IceMen their first regulation loss, and only regulation loss to date, 5-2 Thursday at the new Ford Center in Evansville. The Komets' brief two-game win streak ended Friday with a home setback to Dayton 4-2 before the Komets rebounded with a 4-0 white washing of the visiting Quad City Mallards Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum. The Komets completed the week improving to 6-5-0 for 12 points and fifth place afet 11 games in the CHL's Turner Conference.
Komet leaders of the week-- Goaltender Nick Boucher started all three games for a 2-1-0 record for the week stopping 79 of 85 shots for a 2.02 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. Saturday Boucher appeared in his fourth straight start posting a 4-0 shutout, his first of the season, ninth as a Komet and 19th as a pro. Boucher improved to sixth overall in the CHL with a 2.56 goals-against average in 10 appearances...Center Brett Smith led the Komets for the week with two goals, four assists and six points. Smith also shares the Komets point lead on the season with Bobby Chaumont at 17 points after 11 games. Smith and Artem Podshendyalov lead with six goals each.
Streaking Komets-- Center Brett Smith extended his point-scoring streak to a league-high 10 games (6 goals, 11 assists) with points in each game of the week and has assists in the last four straight games (6 assists)...defenseman Jamie Milam pushed his point-streak to six games (5 goals, 3 assists)...right wing Bobby Chaumont also posted points in each game for a four-game point and assist streak (8 assists).
Special K's-- The Komets' power play was 3/10 for the week improving to 12/45 and a CHL best 26.7% rating. Brett Smith netted a goal with the man advantage during the week and leads the K's with three power play tallies and four power play assists. The Komets only gave up three goals while short-handed posting a 12/15 penalty kill (80%) for the week. GAMES THIS WEEK The Fort Wayne tradition continues Thursday-- The Komets will host their 50th consecutive Thanksgiving game this Thursday night when Bloomington makes their second holiday visit. The Komets feasted on Bloomington 5-2 in 2006. The Komets started the tradition in 1962 after first playing three straight Thanksgivings on the road (1959, 1960, 1961). The Komets have won their last three straight Turkey Night games and are 31-14-4 (.673) on Thanksgiving at home. The Blaze are idle until they visit Thursday. Bloomington (1-8-2) has lost five straight games and are winless since their second game of the season (0-8-2). It's the first of 11 meeting this season and the first of six Bloomington trips to Fort Wayne.
Komets at Quad City Friday-- The Komets will travel to the i wireless Center in Moline, Illinois to face the Mallards of Quad City (5-6-0) Friday at 8:05pm ET. The Mallards trail the Komets by two points in the Turner Conference and will skate at Dayton Wednesday before welcoming the Komets Friday. The Komets have split the first two meetings of the season with Quad City, both at Fort Wayne. Friday's game will the first of five Fort Wayne trips to Quad City.
Komets to visit Hara Arena in Dayton Saturday-- The Komets will make their second of seven appearances at Hara Arena in Dayton Saturday. Fort Wayne's first trip was an 8-2 rout of the Gems. Dayton avenged that night with a 4-2 win on Fort Wayne ice last Friday night to even the series at 1-1. Saturday's game at Dayton will be the third of 14 meetings this season. The Gems begin the week with a one-point edge over the Komets in the Turner Conference and will host Quad City Wednesday and travel to Bloomington Friday before hosting the Komets Saturday.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, along with Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP, present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week throughout the 2011-12 season with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts during the half-hour program. The show will also feature highlights, interviews, call-ins and special segments. TONIGHT, Nov. 21, defensemen Brent Henley and Jamie Lovell will be special guests.
60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
