Macon Mayhem News Release
Two late goals, including the first professional goal by Travis Howe weren't enough for the Macon Mayhem to over come the Knoxville Ice Bears in a 4-3 loss at the Macon Coliseum on Thursday night.
The evening started promising enough for Macon as Daniel Gentzler scored his 12th goal of the season at 7:09. It was the first of two power play goals on the night for the mayhem. But just a minute and a half later, Corey Hale tied it for Knoxville.
Trevor Hertz and Garrett Vermeersch gave Knoxville a 3-1 lead in the the second period, and Hertz' second goal of the game early in the third made it 4-1. With 3:40 left, Mark Rivera, playing in his first home game for the mayhem scored from the left wing circle to cut the lead to 4-2. Then Howe tipped in a shot on the power play to cut the lead to 4-3 with 2:02 let to play.
The Mayhem face Louisiana on Friday, with a chance to close the gap on the seventh-place IceGators. Macon trails Louisiana by three points and is two points ahead of ninth place Columbus. Friday night is the mayhem's Faith and Family featuring a pregame musical performance by Pursuit Worship.
The Mayhem's game Friday night against Louisiana will be the team's Teddy Bear toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring Teddy bears to the game and throw them on the ice when the Mayhem scores its first goal.
The bears will be delivered to area children's hospitals, and distributed to public safety agencies to give to children in stressful situations.
