Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (26-17-4) used a two-goal performance by winger Joe Caveney to secure a 3-2 win over the Peoria Rivermen (34-10-3) on Friday night.
The Ice Flyers struck first with a power play goal with 7:57 left in the first. With Rivermen goalie David Jacobson caught out of the crease, Caveney batted in a rebound off of a shot by Adam Pawlick. Stephen Buco had the other assist. Peoria tied it up at one thanks to a power play goal by former Ice Flyer Cody Dion with 6:22 left in the first.
Peoria took the lead when Dave Pszenyczny capitalized on a power play with a long shot that beat John McLean in the corner with 10:18 left in the second. However, things were even again just 14 seconds later when Buco beat Jacobson. Joey Holka and Charlie Adams assisted on the goal that tied the game at two. The Ice Flyers regained the lead with a power play goal that came with 4:15 left in the second. Pawlick carried the puck into the zone after a Peoria turnover and found Corey Banfield on the right wing. Banfield skated in before hitting Caveney with a perfect pass and Caveney ripped a one-timer slapshot that found twine.
McLean stopped 35 of the Rivermen's 38 shots to secure his 15th win of the season. Pensacola swept the Three Stars as Pawlick was named the third star, Buco second, and Caveney was number one.
The Ice Flyers and Rivermen will continue their three-game set tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. inside the Pensacola Bay Center. It will be Tampa Bay Lightning/Jr. Ice Flyers Fundraiser Night, sponsored by Dr. Donald Dewey, inside the Hangar. Fans who wear Tampa Bay Lightning merchandise while purchasing tickets at the Rodizio Grill Box Office will receive $2 off a Center Ice ticket for the game.
