Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Matt Kniginyzky pitched seven innings, struck out seven, and allowed one run on three hits to lead the Burlington Bees to a 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Community Field on Tuesday night. Jose Duarte drove in three runs and scored another and Mario Lisson homered to provide all the offense the Kniginyzky would need.
Burlington (25-24) scored four times in the second inning on just one hit. Rattler starter Harold Williams walked the first two batters before retiring a batter. After getting the first out on a pop out, he walked the fourth hitter of the inning to load the bases. Williams got ahead of Duarte 0-2, but Duarte lined the next pitch down the left field line for a double to chase home all three runners and the Bees had a 3-0 lead. Duarte stole third on the next pitch and scored on an RBI grounder by Josh Johnson.
Lisson hit the first pitch of the bottom of the third inning out of the park for his fifth home run of the season and a 5-0 Burlington lead.
Wisconsin (19-32) got on the board with a two-out rally in the fourth. Curtis Ledbetter tripled off the right field wall. Michael Saunders followed with a single to center to get Ledbetter across the plate.
That was it for the scoring on the night.
Kniginyzky would only allow a two out double in the fifth and a hit batsman in the sixth as he cruised through the Rattler order.
Nick Allen and Joe Woerman came out of the Rattler bullpen to keep the Bees off the scoreboard to give the offense a chance to get back into the game.
The Rattlers looked like they might do that after Kniginyzky left the game. Ron Garth doubled with one out off Burlington reliever Rayner Oliveros and Robby Hudson dropped a bunt single to put runners at the corners. But, Oliveros settled down and got the final two outs of the inning to dash the Rattler comeback hopes.
Eliezer Garcia pitched a scoreless ninth inning to finish off Burlington's eighth consecutive home win.
Wisconsin has fallen to a season low thirteen games under the .500 mark.
Game three of the four game set at Community Field is Wednesday night. Jose Escalona (4-4, 3.65ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Burlington will send Carlos Rosa (4-3, 2.28ERA) to the mound. Game time is 7:00pm.
