Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, SC- The Charlotte Knights were unable to hold off the prowling Ottawa Lynx as they dropped their third straight loss. This is the first time the Knights have lost three consecutive games in 2006.

Knuckleball specialist, Charlie Haeger, got the Knights off to a good start, pitching six solid innings. Haeger scattered five hits but allowed four runs, including his first home run of the season.

Despite the Lynx pouncing early in the first inning and taking the 1-0 lead, the Knights were able to battle back in the bottom of the first and take the lead. The Knights were able to secure a 2-1 lead after designated hitter, Ernie Young, roped an RBI single and Ryan Sweeney knocked in a run after hitting a single to left field.

The Knights jumped to a large lead in the bottom of the third when Damian Rolls walked with the bases already loaded. With one run already scored, Pascual Matos singled to center field, allowing Casey Rogowski and Young to score, giving the Knights the lead, 5-1.

The Lynx began their comeback in the fourth as Fernando Tatis walked and then advanced to third on a single by Keith Reed. Tatis and Reed both scored, narrowing the score 5-3.

Despite the Lynx narrowing the gap, the Knights were prepared to battle once again as Jorge Velandia crushed a solo home run over the center field wall, giving the Knights the lead 6-3.

In the sixth inning, Luis Terrero hit a solo shot over the left field wall continuing to give the Lynx life.

The Knights were hot once again in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs as Rogowski hit a RBI double to left field and Sweeney brought him home on a single to center field.

Momentum changed for the Lynx in the top of the seventh when Reed hit a grand slam over the wall in left center field, giving the Lynx the lead for the first time since the first inning.

The Lynx gained even more ground in the eighth inning as Eli Whiteside scored after a wild pitch by Knights reliever, Paulino Reynoso, making the score 10-8.

Lynx pitcher, Chris Piersoll, earned the win after pitching two innings, allowing two hits and giving up two runs.
