Durham, NC - The Durham Bulls beat the Richmond Braves 9-3 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park Friday. The Bulls scored seven runs in the sixth inning to send the Braves down to their fourth loss in five games.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Carlos Mendez. Durham tallied twice in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead on a two run single by Sean Burroughs. Kelly Johnson doubled a run home in the fourth to tie the game at two. In the sixth the Bulls erupted for seven runs to blow the game open. Kevin Cash drilled a grand slam to give the Bulls a 6-2 lead. Durham re-filled the bases and Kevin Witt emptied them with a three run double to make it 9-2. Richmond added a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Johnson.
Jon Switzer picked up the win. Brian O'Connor took the loss. Shawn Riggans and Darnell McDonald each had three hits for the Bulls. Kelly Johnson had three hits for the Braves.
The Braves return home Saturday vs. Charlotte at 7 PM.
