Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. --Behind a sequence of unusual events, the Charlotte Knights dropped game one of a three-game series with the Durham Bulls 15-1 on Saturday night.
Scott Bikowski, an outfielder and the Knights designated hitter of the evening, made his first appearance out of the bullpen, pitching the final two outs of the game, and one of the Knights starting pitchers, Arnie Munoz, made his first appearance at the plate, striking out to end the game.
The game wasn't without opportunity for the Knights, who collected eleven base hits, but left a season-high 16 batters on base and committed a season-high five errors.
Making his third start for the Knights, Jeff Little was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. For the bulls, Dewon Brazelton earned the win, giving up just one run on seven hits over 5.2 innings.
The Knights scored their lone run in the sixth as Roosevelt Brown (1-4) doubled up the middle to score Greg Norton, who hit a two-out single to extend the inning.
For the bulls, Paul Hoover led the offensive charge, hitting a solo blast in the third to put the Bulls on the board and connecting on a three-run homer in his second at-bat in the fourth to extend the lead 5-0. Eric Munson drilled a two-out grand slam in the sixth off Kevin Walker, though all four runs were unearned.
The Knights take on the Bulls tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. with Dennis Ulacia (4-6, 6.40) taking on James Shields (7-5, 2.80) for the Bulls.
