FORT MILL, S.C. --The Indianapolis Indians edged out the Charlotte Knights 7-6 Friday night at Knights Stadium, scoring the winning run in the top of the ninth off closer Jeff Bajenaru in his first loss of the season. Roosevelt Brown led the Knights with a 4-for-5 performance, and Ross Gload and Joe Borchard each contributed home runs.

In his tenth start, Jon Adkins allowed seven hits for five runs while striking out five and walking three, but reliever Bajenaru earned the loss for the Knights after giving up just one hit for the winning run. For Indianapolis, Mark Corey earned the win after pitching the final two innings and allowing no runs.

The Indians jumped ahead by scoring four runs in the top of the second, but the Knights answered the call with four of their own in the bottom.

Brian Anderson reached on a fielding error and scored on Gload's home run over the left field wall. Borchard (walk) and Jamie Burke added the other two on Ricky Gutierrez's long single down the left field line to tie the game at four.

Indianapolis scored a run in the top of the fourth, but once again the Knights tied the score on Borchard's leadoff solo homer in the bottom.

Charlotte took the lead in the sixth when Felix Martinez hit a leadoff double and scored on sacrifice bunts from Pedro Lopez and Gutierrez.

The Indians tied the game again in the seventh as Josh Fields, credited with a blown save, allowed an inherited runner to score.

In the bottom of the ninth, Bajenaru entered to hold the game, but walked his first batter, who scored on the triple from the next.

Bajenaru worked out of the inning without allowing any more hits, and the Knights had opportunities in the bottom of the inning as Anderson (single) and Gload (single) reached base. But, Indians' reliever and winning pitcher Corey retired the next three Knights to end the game.

The Knights conclude the series with the Indians Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. at Knights Stadium. Josh Stewart faces Zach Duke on the mound for the Indians.
