Braves win in ninth

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons 7-6 at The Diamond Friday night. The Braves rallied from three deficits to earn their third straight one-run win. Bill McCarthy knocked in the winning run with a two-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth.

The Barons scored a run in the first on an RBI single by Chris Coste. A mammoth Ryan Howard home run in the fourth made it 2-0. The Braves tied the game with a two run fifth. McCarthy belted a homer and J.C. Boscan stroked an RBI single. The Barons went back in front 3-2 on a Nate Grindell RBI single in the sixth. The Braves took their first lead with three runs in the seventh. Jason Bourgeois chased two home with a double and Kelly Johnson tripled Bourgeois home. The Barons rallied for three in the eighth. Chris Coste tied the game with an RBI double and Howard crushed a two-run homer to make it 6-5. In the bottom of the ninth James Jurries singled Scott Pratt home to tie the game, then McCarthy rolled a 3-2 pitch into right scoring Andy Barkett to win it.

McCarthy, Barkett, and Tony Pena had two hits each for the Braves. Howard went 3-for-4 adding a double to his two home runs. Jeremy Ward picked up the win and Franklin Perez took the loss. The Braves three game winning streak equals their longest of the season.

The Braves and Red Barons battle again Saturday at The Diamond at 4 PM. Daniel Curtis will pitch for the Braves against Mike Pedro Liriano. Nationwide Insurance and CBS 6 are presenting a salute to the Negro Leagues. The Braves and Red Barons will wear throwback Negro League uniforms, former Negro League players will be on hand, and there will be an exhibit.
