April 14, 2024 - International League (IL)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(JACKSONVILLE, FL) -- The Charlotte offense has been on a roll lately. It continued in Sunday's finale at Jacksonville.
The Charlotte Knights used a six-run, fifth inning to power past the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by a score of 9-4 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a six-game series from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. With the win, the Knights earned a split of the six-game series. The win also moved the Knights to 3-0 on Sundays this season.
First baseman Carlos Pérez had a big day at the plate for the Knights. Pérez launched a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning and added a two-run single in the top of the fifth. In all, he finished the game with the home run and four RBI. The home run was his first of the season and 34th as a member of the Knights over parts of four seasons.
Other offensive stars for the Knights on Sunday include designated hitter Wynton Bernard, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Second baseman Danny Mendick also chipped in with a two-RBI day. Both Bernard and Mendick drove home two runs apiece in the fifth inning.
Chicago White Sox top prospect Colson Montgomery also continued his hot streak. He walked twice, scored a run, and stole two bases.
RHP Johan Domínguez started the game for the Knights and allowed four runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings pitched. He did not factor in the decision. RHP Aaron McGarity (1-0, 13.50) earned the win out of the bullpen after he did not allow a run over 1.1 innings pitched. RHP Chase Plymell was also sharp in his two innings. He did not allow a run or a hit. The Charlotte bullpen combined to hold the Jumbo Shrimp scoreless over the final 5.1 innings pitched.
The Knights, who have won two consecutive games, will have a day off on Monday before opening a six-game series against the Syracuse Mets (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets) on Tuesday night from Truist Field. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
