Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds concluded a six-game series with an 8-4 loss to the Nashville Sounds on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

Memphis held a pair of early leads on Sunday but could not record a defensive out with either of them. Shortstop Jose Fermin led off the first inning with a double and was soon brought home with a first baseman Luken Baker sacrifice fly to open the scoring. Nashville answered with three runs before an out was recorded in the top of the second.

In the fourth inning, catcher Gavin Collins clubbed his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to tie the game. Second baseman Nick Dunn immediately followed with his first home run of the season to give Memphis a 4-3 lead. The consecutive home runs marked the first time this season that the Redbirds hit back-to-back home runs. The Sounds roared with five in the top of the fifth to retake the lead.

Right-handed starter Victor Santos (0-3) allowed six runs on six hits, walked two and struck out three in 4.1 innings pitched. Connor Thomas, Jacob Bosiokovic and Josh James all had scoreless appearances in relief.

The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park to begin a six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A, Miami Marlins) on Tuesday, April 23 with first pitch for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
