Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks forward Matt Lyons was selected by the Boston Blazers in today's National Lacrosse League Expansion Draft. With the first selection in today's draft, Blazers General Manager & Head Coach Tom Ryan selected Mike Poulin, a goaltender from the Toronto Rock. The 22-year-old Poulin has served as Bob Watson's backup in Toronto for the last two seasons.
The Blazers selected one player from each of the other 12 team's unprotected lists, which were released earlier this month. The 12 players join All-Star forward Dan Dawson and veteran forward Peter Veltman, who were acquired by Boston in June.
Rochester's Lyons was picked third in the draft. Last season, the rookie recorded nine goals and six assists in 12 games. Lyons was originally the 11th overall pick in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft by Boston. However, Lyons was taken by the Knighthawks in last year's dispersal draft.
In 2007, Lyons recorded 27 goals and 32 assists in 18 games with Junior "A" Orangeville (Ontario Lacrosse Association). In the playoffs, he led the Northmen with 22 goals and 20 assists in 15 games. He also played in the 2007 OLA All-Star Game.
