Minnesota Swarm Defenseman Kyle Ross Selected By Boston In NLL Expansion Draft

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill today announced that Swarm defensemen Kyle Ross was selected by the Boston Blazers in today's National Lacrosse League (NLL) Expansion Draft.

The Blazers selected 12 players, one from each NLL team's unprotected list. All NLL teams were given the option of either protecting one goaltender and 13 runners (forwards and defensemen) or two goaltenders and 10 runners. The Swarm protected goaltender Nick Patterson and 13 runners.

Ross, 25 (5/12/83), was the fifth defensemen selected by Boston and the eighth overall pick. He recorded nine points (3-6=9), 26 penalty minutes (PIM) and 77 loose balls in 13 games with the Swarm in 2008. The New Westminster, British Columbia native played in 15 games over two seasons with the Swarm scoring ten points (3-7=10) and picking up 83 loose balls. Minnesota selected Ross in the fifth round (44th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft.

The 2008 NLL Entry Draft and Player Combine will be held in Boston at the TD Banknorth Garden on September 6th and 7th. A total of 76 players will be selected in the six-round Entry Draft, which features the best young talent from NCAA lacrosse programs at US colleges and Universities as well as Canada's junior lacrosse system.
