Kirby Dazzles as Travs Shutout Cards

North Little Rock, AR-George Kirby fired five shutout innings with eight strikeouts and earned his first win of the season as the Arkansas Travelers blanked the Springfield Cardinals, 8-0, on Wednesday at Dickey-Stephens Park. Joe Rizzo belted a two-run home run in the fourth inning and then the Travs put the game away with six runs in the eighth inning. Ben Onyshko (2 IP), Collin Kober (IP) and Michael Stryffeler (IP) followed Kirby to close out the shutout. Kirby gave up just two hits and no walks over his five innings and retired the final 12 hitters he faced.

Moments That Mattered

* In the second inning, Springfield put a runner at third with no one out. Kirby struck out the next two hitters and then got a ground out to end the threat.

* The Cardinals threatened again in the eighth with two walks and a hit batter loading the bases but Collin Kober induced a pop out to end the inning and preserver a two-run lead.
