
Frisco Rides Seven-Run First to Victory over Missions

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders exploded for seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 9-6 win over the San Antonio Missions on Wednesday night from Nelson Wolff Stadium.
Frisco (4-1) started the night hot with back-to-back singles to lead off the first inning from J.P. Martinez and Jonathan Ornelas against Dwayne Matos (0-1). David Garcia and Kellen Stahm both then hit RBI singles to make it 2-0. Following a Dio Arias single, Trey Hair rapped a two-run single, notching the score at 4-0. With two on, Sandro Fabian capped the inning with a three-run blast, putting the Riders in front 7-0. Frisco sent 11 men to the plate in the first.
In the bottom of the first, San Antonio (2-3) fought back with an RBI single from Yorman Rodriguez and a Jorge Ona three-run home run, cutting the Frisco lead to 7-4.
The Missions chopped at the lead more in the bottom of the third when Chris Givin laced an RBI double to left, but the Riders answered back with a Hair RBI double in the fifth to put the lead back to three, 8-5.
Robert Podorsky then laid a safety squeeze down for San Antonio in the sixth to score another run, pushing the score to 8-6, before Frisco added insurance in the eighth and made it 9-6 when Fabian scored on a wild pitch.
Fer Ozuna earned his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The RoughRiders continue their opening road trip of the season against the San Antonio Missions on Thursday, April 14 at 7:05 p.m. Riders RHP Justin Slaten (0-0, 0.00) is slated to make his first start on the mound on Thursday against LHP Osvaldo Hernandez (0-0, 189.00) for San Antonio.
