Frederick Keys News Release
Kinston, NC -- The Kinston Indians defeated the Frederick Keys in convincing fashion, winning 11-1, after snapping the Keys eight-game win streak a night ago.
The Keys offense was held to just three hits, as the Indians pounded out 13 on their way to eleven runs.
The Indians tagged Adam Loewen early, as Mike Conroy hit a two-run home run, his eight of the season, over the right field wall in the bottom of the first inning. Kevin Kouzmanoff would later score when Loewen walked David Wallace with the bases loaded, giving Kinston a 3-0 lead.
Bryan Bass put the Keys on the board in the top of the second with his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot off Nick Pesco, bringing the score to 3-1. That would be the last run the Keys would score.
In the bottom of the second inning the Indians would put four more runs on the board, highlighted by a two-run double from Ryan Goleski, as the Indians expanded their lead to 7-1.
Richard Salazar would hold the Indians bats silent for three innings, before being replaced by Jeff Montani. Kinston went to work right away against Montani, as Brian Barton doubled in the bottom of the sixth to drive in Kouzmanoff, giving the Indians an 8-1 lead.
The Indians would score three more runs against Montani in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Kouzmanoff drove in a run, before Stephen Head hit a two-run double to end the scoring in Kinston's lopsided 11-1 victory.
Pesco (10-10) earned the victory tossing 6.0 innings allowing just one run on three hits. Kyle Collins and Tony Sipp combined to throw 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Loewen (8-8) took the loss lasting just 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, while walking four. Montani gave up the other four runs, three earned on five hits over 2.0 innings. Salazar and Marino Salas combined to throw 4.1 scoreless innings in the loss.
The Keys have Thursday off before returning to action on Friday night with a doubleheader against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans beginning at 4:30 p.m. Fireworks presented by CloseCall America and Blockbuster Video Rte. 40 Frederick/Thurmont follow the second game of the doubleheader.
