Wilmington, DE --- Claudio Arias made his Wilmington debut a memorable one, as he homered in his first Frawley Stadium at-bat to lead to provide the only scoring in the Blue Rocks 2-0 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Wednesday night. Three Wilmington pitchers combined on the shutout, which was the 1,000th in Blue Rocks Franchise history.

Tommy Hottovy pitched the first three innings, and gave up just four hits. Brett Rudrude (2-1) picked up the win, throwing a pair of hitless innings through the fourth and fifth innings. Justin Sturge earned his first save of the season, completing the six-hitter by throwing the final four innings, facing two batters over the minimum.

Arias, who joined Wilmington from Single-A Greenville, slammed a 1-1 fastball from Ricardo Rodriguez (3-9) over the centerfield fence in the first inning, scoring Bryan Pritz, who had led off the inning with a double. After that, Rodriguez settled in and allowed just four more hits over six innings, but took the hard luck loss.

Arias followed up his home run with a double in his second at-bat, finishing the game 2-for-4.

The two teams will wrap up their three-game series with the rubber match Thursday night at Frawley Stadium. The first 1,000 fans through the gates for the 7:05 p.m. game will receive Mini Footballs, courtesy of Delaware State University. Game Notes: The combined shutout is the 10th of the season for the Blue Rocks and first since July 28, when Hottovy, Felix Romero and Ryan Schroyer combined on a one-hitter of Kinston

The bottom five hitters in the Myrtle Beach lineup combined to go 0-for-15 in the game.

Infielder Bret LeVier also joined the ball club prior to the game, coming down from Double-A Portland, but did not play.
