
Warthogs win in Lynchburg, 4-1

Lynchburg, VA - The Winston-Salem Warthogs (31-28, 70-59) won at Lynchburg, 4-1, Wednesday night. Warthogs' starter, Ray Liotta, improved to 5-1. Liotta gave up no runs on four hits in six innings. Orionny Lopez earned his first save. Hillcats' starter, Landon Jacobson, suffered his first loss. Jacobson gave up four runs on five hits in eight innings.
The Warthogs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Travis Hinton reached on an error by shortstop Brandon Chaves. Gustavo Molina followed on a sac bunt, but reached first on an error by third baseman Avalino Asprilla. With one out, Ricardo Nanita was walked to load the bases. Noah Hall was hit by a pitch for the team leading 18th time, to force in Hinton. Leo Daigle followed with a two-run single up the middle to score Molina and Nanita.
The Warthogs added a run to their lead in the top of the fifth. Gustavo Molina led off with a single and went to second on a ground out by Cory Haggerty. Molina scored on a two out RBI double from Robert Valido.
Pat Magnass scored the Hillcats' only run with a solo home run in the bottom of the eight against Boone Logan.
The Warthogs will enjoy their final day off Thursday. Friday they begin an eight game homestand with the first of four with Salem. First pitch Friday at 7pm. All the play by play will be heard on the internet at www.warthogs.com.
