Kinston Indians News Release

- The Roehl World...K-Tribe starter Scott Roehl was simply dominant last night, blanking Frederick for seven innings while setting a new career-high with eight strikeouts in Kinston's 5-4 win. Roehl allowed just four hits and one walk in his gem, and lowered his ERA to 0.85 in the process. He did not allow a runner past second base. Roehl also became the second Indians pitcher to set a career-high in strikeouts this year; RHP Sean Smith struck out 10 August 4th against Lynchburg.

- High-Wire Act...As easy as Roehl made things look last night, the bullpen made things just as scary in the final two innings. RHP Matt Davis gave up two runs in the eighth, and after Kinston got a run back in the bottom of the inning it took three K-Tribe relievers to get the final three outs in the ninth. LHP Shea Douglas started the ninth and got the first two outs but also allowed two base runners. RHP Jim Ed Warden, who blew the save Monday, allowed a hit to the only man he faced, and the Keys drew within a run on Jeff Fiorentino's two-run single to center off recently-promoted RHP Kieran Mattison. Nate Spears flied out on the next pitch however, giving Mattison his first save with Kinston after notching 24 for Lake County.

- The King Bee...Indians CF Brian Barton had a hand in Kinston's first and last runs last night to continue his hot hitting. Barton led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a sharp single to right, went to third on a base hit by DH Michael Butia, and scored on a sacrifice fly by RF Ryan Goleski to make it 1-0. Then with Kinston up 4-2 in the eighth, Barton drove a hit-and-run triple to right-center with two outs as 1B Stephen Head came around to score what held up as the winning run. Barton is hitting .296 over his last nine games, and 3B Rodney Choy Foo is hitting .344 over that same stretch.

- More On The Bullpen...The Indians are 13-13 in their last 26 games, with the starters going 9-4 with a 2.31 ERA and the relievers going 4-9 with a 5.32 ERA. The starters have 13 quality starts in that time; the bullpen has eight blown saves.
