Kingsport Road Warriors News Release

JOHNSON CITY, TN - Caleb McNeely and Van Gupton, Jr. both homered but the Kingsport Road Warriors fell to the Johnson City Doughboys, 16-4, Friday evening at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

One night after smacking three roundtrippers against the Doughboys (13-24-1), the Road Warriors (1-5) left the yard twice. McNeely's solo blast in the second broke the scoreless tie and Gupton, Jr. bookended the scoring with a dinger in the ninth.

After Kingsport grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second, the Doughboys responded with 11 unanswered runs across the next three innings. Designated hitter Ben Berenda answered for the Road Warriors in the sixth, pushing across a tally with a single.

Johnson City tacked on a run in the seventh and four in the eighth, sandwiching McNeely's second RBI hit.

Four of Kingsport's seven knocks were extra-base hits, including a double from Logen Sutton and Kyle Williams.

The Road Warriors used seven pitchers in the loss, highlighted by Gage Hensley's debut. The southpaw struck out two across 1 1/3 innings.

Next, Kingsport hits the country roads to West Virginia to face the Bluefield Ridge Runners. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
