Kingsport Road Warriors News Release
JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Kingsport Road Warriors suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Burlington Sock Puppets, 2-1, Wednesday night at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.
The Road Warriors (0-4) put the tying tally on first base with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With the winning run at the plate, Burlington lefty Camden Fuquay struck out the last two batters to seal the deal.
Burlington (16-21-2) pushed across a run in both the seventh and eighth frames to erase Kingsport's 1-0 lead.
The Sock Puppets didn't generate much offense off of starting pitcher Cole Hales. Hales twirled five shutout innings, recording five punchouts. The right-hander extended his scoreless streak to eight to begin his Appalachian League career.
In relief, southpaw Tanner Moylan kept Burlington off balance. Moylan retired all five batters he faced in his debut.
Third baseman Preston Steele backed Hales with an RBI single in the fourth, putting the Road Warriors in front. Steele recorded his first multi-hit performance in the loss.
Next, Kingsport faces the Johnson City Doughboys Thursday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
