Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK â Lubbock Cotton Kings are partnering with Cinemark to promote hockey in the Lubbock area with a special screening of Disney's "Miracle."
The Kings have 250 tickets available for the special screening at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8. Season ticket holders can call the office to reserve their seats for $5 and non-season ticket holders can reserve their seats for $7. For each ticket purchased, the Kings will donate $.50 to the Mac-a-Roni fund. Call Geoff Goff â 747.7825 x 215 â to reserve your seats by Friday, Feb. 6.
"We wanted to do something fun and exciting for our most loyal fans," said Kings General Partner Mark Adams. "It will also help the Mac-a-Roni fund and support our players."
The Kings players will be at Movies-16 (Loop 289 and Frankfurt) starting at 6 p.m. to sign autographs and give away a team-signed hockey stick. The first 100 fans at the theater will also receive a pack of team trading cards.
Adams and General Manager Rodrick Evans both agree that the season ticket holders are a very important part of the organization.
The Cotton Kings season ticket holders receive discounted tickets, free parking, vouchers for out of town games, and an unused ticket exchange program as a part of their season ticket holder package said Evans. The Kings have also thrown exclusive season ticket holder parties and a trip earlier this season to watch the Dallas Stars play the Nashville Predators at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
The movie is based on the 1980 USA hockey team â coached by Herb Brooks â that beat the Soviets en route to the gold medal in the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. The Kings honored the life of the deceased Brooks with stickers placed on the helmet of each player.
"I decided to put the patch on the jerseys to honor the best coach in U.S.A. hockey," said Kings Head Equipment Manager Tom Carlson. "He helped put hockey back on the map after the win in 1980. It will be hard for someone to step in and replace Herb Brooks."
Brooks coached the U.S. ice hockey team twice in the Olympics. His squad upset U.S.S.R and Finland to win the gold medal in 1980. He also lost to Canada in 2002 in the gold medal game. Brooks died in a car accident early last August.
The Kings Mac-a-Roni Fund will have an online pledge drive to help the fund. Fans have two methods of donating on the web: 1)Pledge a dollar amount 2) Pledge an amount for every Cotton King shot during the game. We are planning to do this again soon and all money raised will go to the fund.
Tickets can be picked up at Select-a-Seat locations or by calling 806.747.PUCK (7825).
