SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS â
COLORADO â The Scorpions renew their rivalry with the Eagles this Wednesday trying to avenge two home losses to the Northwest Division leaders. Colorado has taken five of seven meetings from the Scorpions this season, but New Mexico was victorious in their last visit up north to see Eagles with a 2-1 shootout win on Dec. 13. The CHL's second-best offensive team at 3.52 goals per game, the Eagles are led by the league's third and fifth-leading scorers in Ryan Tobler (26g-42a-68pts) and Greg Pankewicz (26g-35a-61pts), along with Riley Nelson (23g-29a-52pts). Colorado is the league's third-best defensive team, allowing 2.36 goals per game. Ryan Bach leads the league with 23 wins and is fifth with a 2.24 GAA.
ODESSA â The Jackalopes come to town for the second and final time this season on Friday after the Scorpions claimed a 4-1 win on Dec. 26. Odessa had a four-game winning streak ended with a 4-1 loss to Amarillo on Saturday. All-Star Sebastien Thinel leads the Jackalopes with 18 goals and 43 points while Mike Rutter is just behind with 42 points (16g-26a) for the league's second-lowest ranked offense at 2.38 goals per game. However, Odessa leads the way with 36.3 shots per game. Goalie Mike Gorman is 5-7-0 with a 2.64 GAA and .921 save percentage since rejoining the team just after the holidays.
WICHITA â The Thunder are hot on the Scorpions' heels, just three points behind entering Saturday's big game at Tingley Coliseum. Wichita has won two of three previous meetings, with the home team victorious in each game. Adam Calder is third in the CHL with 28 goals and leads the team with 55 points. Calder is also second with 12 power play tallies. Travis Clayton is next with 51 points (18g-33a), while Jason Duda (16g-29a) and Mark Kolesar (14g-31a) are next with 45 points.
