Beaudry Named CHL Goalie of the Week Again

February 2, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

ALBUQUERQUE – The Central Hockey League announced earlier today that New Mexico Scorpions goalie Miguel Beaudry has been named the Vaughn CHL Goalie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 1. It is the second time in a month that the rookie has earned the honor. The first came after a three-game winning streak from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3 that included his first professional shutout in a 1-0 shootout win over Oklahoma City.

The 21 year-old native of Verner, Ontario stopped 76 of 81 shots (93.8 percent) in leading the Scorpions to a pair of one-goal victories. Beaudry stopped 34 of 36 shots, including all 14 in the third period as the Scorpions downed Amarillo 3-2 on Friday. He then stopped 42 shots on Saturday as the Scorpions upended Laredo 4-3 in overtime. Beaudry shined again in the third period as New Mexico was outshot 45-19 in the game by the Bucks, who have the CHL's best record.

"Both of our goalies have played well for us lately," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald, "but Miguel was a big reason for our success this weekend. We have a deal between Miguel and Danny that whoever wins keeps playing, so this is Miguel's chance to take the ball and run with it. So far, he's making the most of that chance and I hope he can keep it going."

For the month of January, Beaudry was 6-2-0 with a 2.08 GAA and .943 save percentage to go with his one shutout. With four straight wins, he has evened his record for the season at 10-10-1 to go with a 2.92 GAA and .912 save percentage.

The Scorpions visit the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal beginning at 6:50 p.m. The Scorpions return home on Friday, Feb. 6 against Odessa and Saturday, Feb. 7 against Wichita. The puck drops at Tingley Coliseum for both games at 7:05 p.m., and Saturday's game is Rainbo Bread Youth Jersey Night to the first 1,000 kids age 14 and under.

Single-game tickets start as low as $11 and are on sale for all remaining regular season home games. All tickets can be purchased at the Scorpions Team Store, 6300 San Mateo NE, and all TicketMaster outlets including www.ticketmaster.com. For more information, call the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825).
