Kings defeat Otters

Evansville Otters News Release


Kalamazoo, MI– The Kalamazoo Kings won their fourth straight game from the Evansville Otters, taking the opener of their three game set, 5-1.

Evansville plated a run on the first two pitches of the ballgame. Frank Scott tripled on the first pitch of the game off of Kings' starter, Greg Wiltshire. On the next pitch, Denver Stuckey hit a sacrifice fly to give the Otters a 1-0 lead. Wiltshire then bore down and did not allow a hit for the next four innings.

The Kings scored a pair of runs each in the first and third innings off of Evansville starter Kurt Watzek. The Kings added one in the fifth to round out the scoring. Evansville threatened in the sixth and seventh putting runners in scoring position with less than two outs, but were shut down by Wiltshire and relievers Brian Beuning and Justin Keeling.

The Otters send Byran Simmering to the mound in game two of the series against Ryan Jamison.
