Washington Wild Things News Release
Brian Stoecklein hit two home runs but the host Chillicothe Paints used four errors to defeat the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, 9-6.
Stoecklein gave the Wild Things a 2-1 lead with two outs in the third, sending a two-run shot over the right-field wall, scoring Brandon Cornell. But the Paints struck back in the fourth, scoring three unearned runs on back-to-back errors by Jon Cahill and Bill Greenwell to go up 5-2. Dustin Brisson hit his 11th homer of the year in the fifth.
Washington mounted a comeback in the sixth sparked by Stoecklein's second home run of the game and fifth of the year. The Wild Things added another run when Greenwell scored on L.J. Biernbaum's double, but could not score again with the bases loaded and one out.
Chillicothe answered in the following frame, scoring three more runs on four hits to make the score 9-4. Chad Kinyon brought the Washington within three, adding a two-run home run in the eighth, but that was the closest the Wild Things would come.
Josh Rahrer (5-3) earned the win, pitching 5 1/3 innings while giving up four runs and six hits. Grant Dorn (2-4) took the loss after giving up six runs (three earned) and six hits through five innings. Chillicothe reliever Ramon Royce pitched a scoreless ninth for his 13th save of the year.
With the loss, the Wild Things now lead the East Division by only a half-game over Kalamazoo. Washington will look to snap their three-game losing streak Monday night against Chillicothe at 7:05.
