Kenosha, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters lose game two of the series against the Kenosha Kingfish, 11-3. The Pit Spitters record drops to 34-24, and 12-11 in the second half.
The Kingfish offense struck first in the bottom of the first when Dom Listi and Connor Goodwin hit back-to-back singles. Brandon Nigh came through hitting the team's third single of the inning, scoring Goodwin giving the Kingfish a 1-0 lead. Matt Wolfe led off the bottom of the third with a single to right field. Goodwin came through with a single of his own, scoring Wolfe to make it 2-0. Nigh hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Goodwin to extend the Kingfish lead to 3-0. Parker Brosius drew a walk in the top of the fourth inning to get the Pit Spitters offense going. Glenn Miller hit a double to center field, scoring Brosius to cut into the Kingfish lead 3-1. Joe Wike continued the Kingfish offense in the bottom of the fourth with a single to center field. Wolfe singled to right, scoring Wike to make it 4-1. Tyler Minnick hit a double to kick off the offense in the top of the fifth inning. Alec Atkinson singled scoring Minnick to make it a 4-2 game. The Kingfish offense poured on the runs in the bottom of the fifth all starting with a Lance Trippel single to left. Nigh doubled scoring Trippel, followed by Tj Yakimisky who singled to right scoring Nigh to extend the Kingfish lead to 6-2. Following a walk by Giovany Lorenzo and a single by Wike, Wolfe singled, scoring Yakimisky pushing the score to 7-2. Listi doubled to left field unloading the bases, to give the Kingfish a 10-2 lead. Miller led off the top of the sixth with a walk. Cole Prout doubled scoring Miller to cut into the Kingfish lead 10-3. Nigh would be hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the sixth. He later was brought around to score on a fielding error made by shortstop Camden Traficante extending the Kingfish lead to 11-3. The Kingfish won the game 11-3, after the game was called on the account of weather in the top of the ninth.
The Pit Spitters drop to 34-24 on the season and 12-11 in the second half, while the Kingfish improve to 26-31 overall and 9-15 in the second half. The Pit Spitters starting pitcher Jake Michel threw four innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. Holden Wilder came in for relief, giving up six runs on six hits, striking out four. Easton Johnson threw the last two innings of the game, giving up one hit and striking out two.
The Pit Spitters travel back to Turtle Creek Stadium for a two-game series against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks. First pitch is 7:05 PM.
