Kenosha Kingfish News Release
The Kenosha Kingfish defeated the Wausau Woodchucks 9-3 at Historic Simmons Field Thursday night.
WIth the loss, the Kingfish have dropped two of their last three contests. The Woodchucks have won three of their last five games.
The Woodchucks rang up the scoreboard first in this game, unlike in game one, on a Zach Levenson single that scored Ben Abernathy in the first. The Kingfish responded in the bottom half of the frame after Drake Westcott hit Drake Herrera home on a double down the right field line.
Wausau reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the following frame on a Collin Reuter groundout that scored Maurice Gomez.
The Woodchucks scored in the third straight inning with a pair of runs to enhance their lead to 4-1 a third of the way through the game. Chase Hug belted a triple off of the center field wall to score Zach Levenson before Hug then sprinted home on a wild pitch.
Wausau added an additional run in the eighth frame when Dwight Allen sprinted home on a wild pitch. The home squad posted a run of their own when Herrera ran the final 90 feet on an error of the bat of Jay Beshears.
The visitors put the game away with a three-spot in the ninth inning to make it 8-2 on a bases-clearing double by Ryan Sepede that plated Abernathy, Watkins and Levenson.
Ryan Sepede had the best night at the plate, as he went 2-for-5 with a run scored, a pair of doubles and three RBIs on the night.
Drake Westcottt showed promise for Kenosha after going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI to finish the series.
Nick Marshall (4-1) got the win in relief for the Woodchucks, as he pitched three frames of no-run, one-hit ball.
Sam Bass (1-2) took the loss for the Kingfish after allowing four runs and five hits in three innings.
Kenosha (8-6) still sits in second in the Great Lakes East despite dropping the game, and Wausau (9-5) now holds sole possession of second in the Great Lakes West.
The Kingfish will host Kokomo for a pair of games back at Historic Simmons Field on July 23 and 24. The game on July 23 will begin at 6:05 p.m.
