Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - The Kingfish battled the Battle Creek Bombers in the final game of the 2014 inaugural season and ended the season with a triumph. The Kingfish topped the Bombers 8-2, sweeping the final series and culminating a winning record of 41-30 overall. The win was not enough to push Kenosha into playoff position however as the Wisconsin Woodchucks were also victorious.
Duffy Dyer's squad wasted no time entertaining the crowd, loading the bases on a Chris Godinez single, Buddy Reed single, and Zach Ratcliff hit by pitch in the first. They came away with four runs while eight different batters stepped to the plate. They grabbed another run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Pat Porter. Porter ends the season with 63 RBI on the year, the fifth highest mark in NWL history.
King Elvis' crew tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a two-RBI double from catcher Joseph Stubbe, his first plate appearance in the Northwoods League. The hit pushed the Kenosha lead to 8-2, where it would sit for good.
Kingfish starter Callahan Brown got his third win of the 2014 campaign, going six innings and allowing just two runs. The reliever trio of Connor Kelly, Garrett McKenzie and Steven Klimek held the Bombers scoreless in the final three frames.
The Kingfish finished the inaugural season with many accomplishments, ending with three consecutive sellouts and an average of more than 2,000 fans per game. The club ranked fourth in overall attendance in the 18 team league.
