Growlers End Season 3rd in Attendance, Players Receive All-Star Honors

Kalamazoo, Mich - The Kalamazoo Growlers have completed their inaugural season with a loss to the defending Northwoods League Champion Madison Mallards by a score of 10-8.

The Growlers surrendered three runs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Mallards the lead. Jesse Puscheck went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Relief pitcher John Schreiber was given the loss in his three inning effort with three earned runs.

The Growlers finished third in attendance behind the La Crosse Loggers and Madison Mallards. The Growlers averaged over 2,200 fans a game with 3,610 in attendance to watch the final game of the Growlers inaugural season. Over 80,000 fans packed Homer Stryker Field in 36 home games.

Three Growlers players in Ryan Lidge (Notre Dame), Troy Montgomery (Ohio State), and Ryan Smoyer (Notre Dame) were honored with spots on the Northwoods League Postseason All-Star Team. Smoyer was named Co-Pitcher of the Year. Also, "Voice of the Growlers" Mike Coleman was awarded Play-by-Play Announcer of the Year.

Ryan Smoyer: 8-1 W/L, 2.01 ERA, 10 GS, 80.2 IP, 18 ER, 43 SO

Troy Montgomery: .357 AVG, 56 H, 3 HR, 26 RBI

Ryan Lidge: .257 AVG, 44 H, 2HR, 26 RBI
