St. Cloud Rox News Release
Duluth, MN - The St. Cloud Rox finished the 2014 regular season in Duluth Sunday afternoon as they fell to the Huskies 7-6 in 10 innings at Wade Stadium. The Rox scored twice in the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead late but the Huskies scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth and two more in the bottom of the 10th to defeat the Rox as they finish the season with a second half record of 18-19 and an overall record of 37-35, the most wins in a season in team history.
The Rox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Boo Vazquez, Clay Ardeeser and Seth Heck each recorded RBI-hits to put the Rox ahead early. After the Huskies tallied a run in the second inning off starter Nick McCarty, they recorded three more in the fourth to take the lead and knock McCarty out of the game as Matt Rodgers came in to pitch the fifth inning.
Rodgers then threw two scoreless innings of relief before the Rox retook the lead in the seventh after Mitchell Kranson doubled to score Eric Loxtercamp and Liam Bedford to make it 5-4. Nick Denny then threw the eighth and shut out the Huskies before Duluth tied the game in the ninth inning with an RBI-double off Kevin Burgee with two outs to send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 10th, Clay Ardeeser led off with a triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Will Craig to give the Rox the lead once again. In the bottom of the inning, the Huskies tied the game with an RBI-double from Austin Christensen, who later scored after a single from Alex Greene to give the Huskies a 7-6 victory on the final day of the regular season.
