Kingery Double Gives BlueClaws 6-3 Win Saturday in Hickory

HICKORY, NC - Scott Kingery, playing in his third professional game, put the BlueClaws ahead with a two-run double in the eighth and Lakewood held off Hickory 6-3 on Saturday night at LP Frans Stadium.

The win gives the BlueClaws (2-1/35-36) two straight since dropping the second-half opener to Hickory (1-2/45-26) on Thursday night.

Kingery, drafted by the Phillies in the 2nd round of this year's draft from the University of Arizona, is now 4-12 in three games. The double, which came off of Joe Filomeno, put Lakewood up 4-3. Herlis Rodriguez followed with an RBI double of his own to put Lakewood up 5-3.

Then in the ninth inning, Kyle Martin, a 4th round pick this year from the University of South Carolina, launched his first professional home run that put Lakewood up 6-3. Matt Hockenberry came on and threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his seventh save.

Manaure Martinez (2-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Filomeno (0-1) took the loss for the Crawdads.

Emmanuel Marrero hit his first professional home run for Lakewood in the third inning and finished 2-4. Gustavo Martinez added two hits for the BlueClaws as well.

Lakewood starter Chris Oliver allowed three runs in five innings and did not factor on the decision.

The series with Hickory continues on Sunday at 5:00. LHP Elniery Garcia (4-6) starts for Lakewood against LHP Yohander Mendez (0-0).
