Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - In the resumption of Friday's suspended game, the Greenville Drive took down the Charleston RiverDogs 4-3 in front of 5,693 fans at Fluor Field on Saturday night.
The game picked up in bottom of the second with the Drive (2-0, 40-32) ahead 2-0. Greenville's Michael Kopech (3-5) and Charleston's Matt Wotherspoon traded zeroes for a few innings until the Drive got to Wotherspoon for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick Longhi began the sixth with a triple into the right field corner, and Javier Guerra followed with a solid single through the right side for an RBI. After Guerra swiped second, a Charleston misplay on a Joseph Monge fly ball made the score 4-0.
Charleston made things interesting by scoring three times in the seventh. After an Alexander Palma RBI single knocked Kopech out of the game, a wild pitch and a Drive error scored two more runs, but Ryan Harris got a groundout to escape further trouble.
Kopech struck out seven RiverDogs hitters over four and two-third innings to pick up the win, his first since a May 22nd win, also over Charleston. Harris notched his third save by recording the final seven outs.
Longhi had two hits for Greenville, and Guerra drove in a pair. Isaias Tejeda had three hits for Charleston, and Palma added two hits.
The teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field. LH Jalen Beeks (6-4, 4.35) will deliver the first pitch for the Drive at 4:05 PM, and the RiverDogs will start LH Rony Bautista (3-1, 3.20).
