Burnette Hurls Power to 3-0 Second Half Record

(Charleston, WV - June 27, 2015) - The West Virginia Power beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-1 on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. With the victory the Power remain perfect in the second half and are in sole possession first place in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division.

In the second inning the Power plated the first run of the game. Michael Suchy led off the frame with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He reached third on a wild pitch and scored when Chase Simpson hit a pop fly to shallow right field that dropped with the infield drawn in.

Greensboro tied the game in the fourth inning. Follow three consecutive one-out singles, Justin Twine hit a sacrifice fly to center.

The Power reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning off the Grasshoppers bullpen. Jerrick Suiter reached on a single and reached third thanks to a pair of wild pitches. After a Simpson walk, Taylor Gushue hit an RBI single to left to plate Suiter. Tyler Filliben reached on a fielding error by Greensboro, which advanced Simpson to third. Simpson then scored on a Jeff Roy RBI fielder's choice.

Jake Burnette (3-3) earned the victory in relief of Stephen Tarpley while James Buckelew (3-2) suffered the loss for Greensboro. Tarpley put up his first quality start as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization with six innings of work. The lefty surrendered one run on four hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Dovydas Neverauskas entered the game in the ninth inning and registered his first career save.

The Power (3-0, 40-32) continue their five-game series with the Grasshoppers (0-3, 29-43) on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia will toss RHP Alex McRae (3-4, 4.02) and he is opposed by Greensboro RHP Jose Cavanerio (0-3, 3.77). First pitch is at 2:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 and 1490, the TuneIn Radio App, and the Power website is slated for 1:45 p.m.

Sunday's game is a Kids Sunday Funday at Appalachian Power Park. All kids 12 and under can play catch on the field when the gates open at 1 p.m. until 1:20 p.m. After the game, all kids can run the bases and select Power players will participate in a postgame autograph session.
