Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Sioux Falls Canaries fans already knew Taylor Hill was one of the best arms in the league. Now he's got some hardware to show for it.
Hill has been named the American Association's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 30, 2019.
Hill lands the honor after a pair of outstanding home starts. He threw seven innings of two-run ball on June 24 vs. Fargo-Moorhead, getting a tough-luck no-decision in an extra-inning loss.
His last time out, Hill was even better. He threw seven innings vs. Milwaukee, allowing one seventh-inning run on seven hits. He struck out a season-high eight without walking a batter.
Over the two starts, Hill's ERA was 1.93.
The former major-leaguer is the first Canary to receive a weekly honor since first baseman David Bergin was named Player of the Week for the week ending July 22, 2018. He's the first Canaries pitcher of the week since Cesilio Pimentel received the honor for the week ending July 8, 2018.
Hill spent parts of the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Washington Nationals, making nine total big-league appearances.
The Nationals drafted Hill in the 6th round in 2011 out of Vanderbilt. Hill rose through the ranks in Washington's system, spending parts of five seasons at Triple-A Syracuse in addition to his major league appearances. Hill posted a career-low 2.81 ERA in 2014 while at Syracuse, earning him a call-up to The Show.
The Sioux Falls Canaries start up a 10-game homestand this Friday, July 5, at 7pm. Friday features a special Fourth of July Weekend edition of Friday Fireworks, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. Saturday is Ladies Night at the Birdcage. Ladies can buy a special VIP ticket package for the game, including the chance to dig up a pair of $2,000 diamond earrings on the field after the game. More info at sfcanaries.com/DiamondDig.
