Goldeyes Rally Late Twice, Fall Short on Canada Day

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (24-17) lost 9-7 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Shaw Park late Monday afternoon.
The RedHawks (28-15) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Devan Ahart doubled home Brennan Metzger three batters into the game. Chris Jacobs followed with an RBI groundout to second, while Leobaldo Pina capped the frame with a two-out, two-run double.
In the bottom of the second, James Harris singled to centre with one out. Reggie Abercrombie walked, and two batters later, a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. With two outs, Kyle Martin singled on a sharp groundball up the middle that scored Harris and Abercrombie to pull the Goldeyes within 4-2.
Goldeyes' starting pitcher Mitchell Lambson settled in after the first, and following a leadoff single to Yhoxian Medina in the top of the second, Lambson retired 13 batters in a row and 20 of the next 21.
In the top of the eighth, TJ Bennett extended the RedHawks' lead to 6-2 with a two-out, two-run double.
Winnipeg responded in the bottom half. Alex Perez lined a single to centre leading off. Tyler Hill followed with a two-run home run to left-centre.
The RedHawks added three runs in the top of the ninth on a solo home run from Medina and a two-run shot from Ahart.
The Goldeyes again rallied in the bottom of the ninth. With first and second and two outs, Perez ripped a double to the right field wall that scored Wes Darvill. Hill then doubled to left-centre to score Kevin Garcia and Perez, which brought the tying run to the plate. RedHawks' closer Geoff Broussard came in from the bullpen and recorded the final out to earn his 12th save of the year.
RedHawks' starting pitcher Sebastian Kessay (6-0) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits in five innings. Kessay walked two and struck out nine.
Lambson (5-2) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in seven and one-third innings. Lambson walked one and struck out nine. Lambson has pitched at least seven full innings in each of his last six starts.
Hill finished with four RBI for Winnipeg.
