King Of Pop Tribute Night In Condorstown This Friday
October 27, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, return to the Mercy and Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena this week, following two wins in Victoria against the Salmon Kings. The first-place Condors host Ontario on Wednesday for Toy Collection Night, and the Utah Grizzlies come to town on Friday for King of Pop Jersey Raffle & Auction. Doors open at 6 p.m., the puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights.
As dedicated as the Condors are to performing on the ice, the team is equally dedicated to its work off of the ice and in the community. And both homes games this week feature community-themed promotions. On Wednesday, the Condors, with help from ABC23 and R & D Leather Furniture, will be collecting toys for the less fortunate in Kern County. Fans who donate a new, unwrapped toy will receive entry into the game for just $1. The toys will be donated to Stay Focused Ministries. Over the past five years, the Condors and their fans, have donated more than 1,300 toys to various local charities. Wednesday's first intermission will feature the ever-popular Mascot Sling Shot, and in the spirit of Halloween, Pumpkin Bowling, where contestants try to knock over pins on the ice with-you guessed it-a pumpkin.
Friday night is for all of those "Smooth Criminals" out there looking to honor the "King of Pop." The Condors players will be playing their part during the game, sporting specialty jerseys (pictured, right) sponsored by ABC23, HOT 94.1 and Mercy & Memorial Hospitals to benefit Children's Miracle Network, which will be auctioned off throughout the night. The night will include music and King of Pop themed promotions as well, and Condors players will even wear one white glove during the game, some of which will later be available for purchase. To top it off, everyone in the house is eligible to win one of five game-worn tribute jerseys that will be raffled off during the game. Also, anybody with the name "Michael Jackson" or "Billie Jean" will receive free entry into the game by showing your ID.
Following every game, Condors players will be at the Bakersfield Marriott Autograph Booth, located on the arena concourse behind section 108. D Shaun Fisher and RW Nick Kemp will be at the booth on Wednesday, while RW Logan MacMillan and D Patrik Prokop will be there on Saturday. The players will arrive at the booth approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the game to meet fans and sign autographs.
All Condors games can be heard live on ESPN 1230, or through live streaming on B2 Networks and www.bakersfieldcondors.com. On Saturday, the Condors head south to Ontario to battle the Reign at 7 p.m. That game is preceded on ESPN 1230 by USC football, which kicks off at 5 p.m., and will be joined in progress over the airwaves. However, the game will be carried live in its entirety online through ESPN's streaming audio. Log on to www.espnbakersfield.com or www.bakersfieldcondors.com to listen from the drop of the puck.
