Beloit Sky Carp News Release
The Sky Carp wrapped up a 12-game road trip by crushing Lansing 11-0 on Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field.
While the offense tallied double digit runs for the third straight game, left-handed starter Zach King mowed through the Lugnuts lineup, throwing seven shutout innings while striking out a career-high 11.
After King stranded runners on in the first two frames, Beloit struck first with three runs in the third inning, two of which on an RBI double by Will Banfield.
The 3-0 lead held until the fifth inning, when Nasim Nunez crushed his first professional homer 411 feet to dead center field to push the lead to 4-0.
In the sixth, the Sky Carp added on again, scoring three more times - twice on a two-run homer from Kyler Castillo, his first in High-A.
King finished his outing on a high note in the seventh, striking out back-to-back batters to reach his career high in strikeouts. The Vanderbilt product didn't surrender a hit after the second inning and allowed just one baserunner in that span.
Beloit broke the game wide open in the eighth, using another RBI from Castillo and a 2-RBI double from Victor Mesa Jr to push the lead to 11-0.
The victory marks the Sky Carp's fifth straight win against Lansing, and third straight to open the second half. The win evens Beloit's overall record at 34-34 after the team was 15 games under .500 on May 20.
The Sky Carp return home to ABC Supply Stadium on Tuesday to start a six-game series with the South Bend Cubs at 6:35. Tickets for all six contests are available now on SkyCarp.com.
