Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced on Wednesday the signing of a pair of new players. Joining the Bees are forward Mark Magnowski (mag-now-skee) and goaltender Mike Brown.
Magnowski, 24, joins the Bees after starting the season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. In his 12 games with the Condors Magnowski potted three goals and added three assists for six points. Magnowski played four seasons at Princeton University including three seasons with current Bees forward Brett Wilson. While with the Tigers, Magnowski racked up 39 goals and 48 assists.
The Bees have also signed goalie Mike Brown. Brown, 25, is in his sixth professional season with stops in the AHL, ECHL, CHL, Germany, and SPHL. This season Brown has suited up for three different squads including the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), Trenton Devils (ECHL) and Mississippi Surge (SPHL). Brown was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round in the 2003 NHL Draft.
In Brown's lone CHL season he guarded the net for the Amarillo Gorillas for 41 games in 2009-10 with a 3.46 goals-against-average and a .904 save percentage. While playing junior hockey in Canada, Brown was the goalie for the 2004-05 Owen Sound Attack (OHL), the same squad Killer Bees blueliner Matt Smyth suited up for.
"I am always looking to improve the team and with these moves I think we've done so." Killer Bees head coach Chris Brooks said. "Magnowski is a talented forward that improves the depth of our team and Brown brings lots of experience between the pipes and should create a good environment for both him and Pagliero."
The Killer Bees will take to the road once again this weekend facing the Laredo Bucks on Friday night and the Texas Brahmas on Saturday night. The Bees return home January 21 against the Allen Americans. Tickets are available by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825) or visiting killerbeehockey.com
